And remembered the description of eternity that my mom had shared. She had read that the best way to describe eternity is to imagine that every 1000 years, a dove would descend from Heaven to remove a single grain of sand from the beach. When every grain of sand was removed from every beach on earth, eternity would begin.
My thoughts turn to Thoreau's statement, "As if you could kill time without injuring eternity". I know that I'm where I need to be while in the company of seagulls and sand crabs. They're the readers of the notes I write in the sand below the tide line and the witnesses to the waves washing those notes away.
I was walking along the beach
gazing at the rolling waves
being in the moment when I felt the presence of my father
a younger version...unshaken, I flowed with the experience
as he shared words he never could say in life.
He expressed his respect in the man I had become....
